History

The members of the Department of Mathematics has set-up a fund solely utilizing the donations from some of the members of the department in early 1990s. The main objective of this fund was to offer financial support for Mathematics Special Degree students who face financial difficulties to continue their higher studies.

In late 1990's another social welfare program has been initiated by Dr. LALW Jayasekara with the support of a local organization of the Umi city in Japan with the main objective of providing reading material to the school libraries in far remote areas of Sri Lanka. In addition, an organization called West-Japan Sri Lanka Scholarship Foundation has also established link with us to set-up a scholarship programme for school children. These have been awarded to students who have shown good performance but have finacial difficulties in continuing their studies.
